Children’s Health Policy

Children with obvious signs of illness will not be accepted at camp upon arrival. The following is a partial list of symptoms that indicate a child should remain at home:

  • Fever within the last 48 hours
  • Diarrhea and/or vomiting within the last 48 hours
  • Skin rash that has not been identified
  • Evidence of head lice
  • Continuous coughing or constant runny nose
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Sore throat
  • Open cold sores
  • Green runny nose at the beginning of a cold
  • Runny nose that the child cannot manage

If a child comes to camp with any of these symptoms, we will call you and ask that you pick your child up. If a child’s cold symptoms make them lethargic, or a child’s runny nose is too much for them to manage, your child should remain at home. A note from a doctor is required when the child’s allergies have the appearance of cold symptoms. Medication can only be administered at camp after the State of California’s written authorization requirements have been met. Necessary forms can be picked up in the office.

If a child becomes sick while at camp, we will call the parents on their home, work, and cell phones. If we cannot reach a parent after 20 minutes, we will begin calling the designated people listed in the child’s file.

If a child has a fever or vomiting or diarrhea, we ask that parents keep the child home for 48 hours from the last occurrence of these symptoms to help prevent the spread of illness.

Behavioral Expectations

Our campers are expected to behave kindly and respectfully. Developing respectful behavior, kind interactions, and self-control is part of our process at PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym. We promote encouraging relationships with oneself and others.

If there is a pattern of behavioral issues, our staff will work with parents to develop an action plan to reduce or eliminate the undesired behavior. If the action plan does not produce the desired results, a conference will be requested with parents and other staff members to determine the next steps. PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym reserves the right to terminate a child’s enrollment in the program if behavioral issues cannot be resolved.

Parents, please discuss these expectations with your child:

  • Behave kindly and gently towards all life and property
  • Respect and cooperate with leaders
  • Participate and cooperate with group activities; do not deliberately disrupt the group
  • Keep our bodies to ourselves (no fighting or wrestling)
  • Respect others’ property and belongings (no stealing or damaging)
  • Be gentle; do not bring real or pretend weapons and do not turn other toys into harmful objects
  • Be kind; no bullying, intimidating, or teasing any camper or staff member
  • Use respectful words; no inappropriate or foul language
  • Include others; all games and activities are inclusive, and we take turns when necessary
  • Do not share or steal food or drinks; see a counselor if you are hungry or thirsty
  • Give others space when they ask for it and ask for space when needed; tell a counselor if you need help
  • Be gentle with all PCC property
  • Pick up after yourself; if you see garbage left by others, tell a counselor
  • Use inside voices indoors and in the vans
  • Walk indoors (run as much as you like outdoors)
  • Use PCC toys; leave personal toys at home or in your backpack (you may store items in the office while at camp)
  • Classroom Rules
    • Keep hands, feet, body, and objects to yourself.
    • Show respect to staff, others, and yourself.
    • Speak for yourself, not for others.
    • Do not willfully destroy property.

Van Pick-Ups (After School Camp)

Please review the following instructions with your campers to ensure a safe and efficient transportation process from the schools to PCC:

  • No Snacks Before Boarding: Campers are not allowed to purchase ice cream, slushies, or other snacks before entering the PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym van to help us stay on schedule.
  • No Eating or Drinking: Eating and drinking are not permitted on the PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym vans.
  • Timely Arrival: Campers must arrive at the vans within 10 minutes of school dismissal. They should go directly to the PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym vans when dismissed. A $10 fine will be applied for tardiness without prior communication.
  • Respectful Behavior: Everyone is expected to behave kindly and respectfully before, during, and after pick-up. This includes:
    • No inappropriate language or teasing
    • No pushing or roughhousing
    • Remaining seated until the driver opens the van doors
    • Avoiding any behavior that could make the trip unsafe (e.g., unbuckling seat belts, throwing items, screaming)

We use “van citations” to track behavioral issues and work with parents towards improvements.

If your camper is not attending SACC or does not need to be picked up, please reach out to us via:

  • Phone/Voicemail: (650) 365-1946
  • Famly App
  • Email: pccsacc@wearepcc.com

Failure to notify us of an absence will result in a $10 fine.

Pick-Up Only Campers: If your child signs themselves out or walks home, they must check in with the sign-in counselor at PCC before leaving campus to ensure all campers are safely received.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and efficient van pick-up procedure!

Homework (After School Camp)

  • Campers will have 15-30 minutes of designated homework time during camp unless you notify us that you would like more homework time for your camper.

Faith Time

At PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym, we welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds. As a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church, we believe in inviting all people of all ages to discuss faith.

We have time each day to discuss and explore our faith with each other, calling our small group discussions “Campfire Time.” We discuss Bible verses and Jesus in ways that are respectful and relevant to any faith background.

For example, when discussing the story of Jesus healing the man with leprosy, we might talk about treating all people with love and kindness, even if society doesn’t accept them. Have we ever been excluded or left out? What can we do as a group to ensure our camp is inclusive?

Birthdays

We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday! Please let us know in advance if your child is celebrating a birthday during camp.

Optional:

  • It is okay to bring a nut-free food item to share with the group (28 campers) with not too much sugar.
  • We can incorporate any birthday traditions from your family’s culture and background.

Dress Code

Please ensure your child wears attire that is appropriate and comfortable for camp activities. Clothing should not expose too much skin or display violent or slanderous content.

Donations

If you would like to donate to our program, we greatly appreciate your support! Please contact the camp office for more information on how to donate.

Publicity

Unless otherwise specified in writing, you grant permission to PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym to take, use, copyright, and produce photographs and videos of your child, yourself, and your family while participating in PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym activities for any lawful purpose. This includes print and/or electronic publication, promotion, social media, web content, illustration, advertising, trade, or historical archive. You release PCC-SACC-Swim & Gym and its legal representatives from liability for any violation or claims relating to these images or videos. Additionally, you grant permission to use the statements of your child, yourself, and your family given during an interview or evaluation for advertising and publicity without restriction to time limit or geographic area. You waive any right to compensation from the use of these materials.
